the log home

That's me, the little blondie in the car seat.
And that over there with the super cool glasses is my grandpa.

Some of my favorite memories from my childhood are with him. I remember riding in his truck with him sometimes. He drove around on the ranch property and would whistle most beautifully (as he still does). He would drive with his knees and eat fig neutons and call me "lissabell."

The day time was a time to play, but early in the mornings, and the evenings when the sun was setting, those were some of my favorite. The quiet times, when I liked to think about my life and think about the world, even at a young age. And the warm nights when grandpa would gather the kids together and we would sing primary songs and he would tell us the stories of Jesus. And grandma would fuss over us and spoil us and just love us and love us, and we always cried when it was time to go. The log home was a haven from the world, far away, with my family.  I remember being so, so sad when it was time to leave.

They don't live there anymore, but I visit the empty house every time I get the chance. Everywhere I look, I see another memory.

Is there a special place in your childhood you remember?

This is Bliss IV

fifteen-point-five credit hours
the folks who smile back
generous tippers
making organized lists... in Sunday school
the boy who just wanted to bear his testimony about his little brother
("he can just fall asleep anywhere!")
crying it out
finally understanding interval quality
sibling laughing festivals
street tacos
fresh fruit from the farmer's market
monsoon season
"Dumbledore's man, through and through"
showing off my (super hot) talented boyfriend

I mean seriously. And look at that killer smile of his. I'm just one lucky girl. :)
Happy Sunday, everyone!

This is Bliss - I

I think that sometimes, we forget important things. I know I'm guilty of it. We don't try to forget, but things get lost in the crazy, everyday lives that we lead.

Starting today, every Sunday, I'm going to write about things that make me happy,
things that are lovely,
things that are beautiful,
that are good.

It's my little weekly reminder to myself and to you to think about the things you are grateful for.

by kimmie walker

  • Babies in church. They make me cry, and I want to hold all of them.
  • The funny things mom says in Sunday School.
  • When Spencer surprises me with kisses. (he gives the BEST kisses)
  • Painting my toenails bright colors
  • Making peanut butter bars that disappear within 24 hours (it's flattering)
  • Going on amazing adventures with my best friend
  • Pokemon. (gotta catch 'em all)
  • Only 12 more days of school!
  • Spontaneous frog/lizard/snake hunting
  • Hearing the train as I go to sleep

What makes you happy?

Life Without an iPhone

Sometimes I get jealous that I don't have an iPhone, and I can't use instagram to take pictures of little things that make me smile. (And I wonder how I'm ever going to survive)

But then I have days like today, where I take my little brother to get a hair cut and have the best chess game with him (I would have won, too, if it wasn't his turn for the chair), and I realize that somedays just don't need pictures. Somedays, we can just remember it and enjoy that it happened.

I'm grateful for my brother, who likes to tell me things I don't know about the world (those cylinder things on power lines? They're called "transformers.") and who sometimes tells me I look really cute, even though he's ten and feels sheepish about it.

The end.

p.s. what a good lookin' kid! he's gonna get all the ladies.

My Cinderella Sister

My dear, lovely sister Chelsea had prom last week! She looked fabulous, and her date, Chandler, made sure she had the best prom of her life.

Yep. She's drop dead gorgeous, right?

The end.

Hare Krishna!

Festival of Colors.
Was.
AMAZING.

Seriously.
It was the first time Paige, Kaylie and I had been, and man, it was so cool! (Also SUPER crowded, but that's okay, cause I love people.)
I was really grateful for Spencer's FoC experience. He knew what to wear/bring/do and everything. He's just a professional.
Also, I'm pretty sure Kaylie and Paige are friends now which is AWESOME cause they are truly two peas in a pod. It's ridiculous how similar they are.

Hare, hare
Krishna, Krishna!

Of Autumn Leaves and Families

I am so grateful for the little wonders of life.
From mere Intelligences
To soulful Spirits,
Then into living, breathing bodies we become,
As a seed becomes a sapling.

And we smile,

And we stare,

And we wander.

And then, we remember:

It is not the sky
That was God's greatest creation.

Like, to a man?

Sometimes I think I'm lazy because I want to be a stay-at-home mom.
Not that I need to worry about that quite yet, see, but honestly. Those days when I'm working and I just think, "Gee . . . It would be nice to stay at home with my own little twerps instead of chasing around somebody else's."

Hm, that sounded rude.
Let me tell you, I LOVE teaching. I love it. So flippin' much.
Maybe . . . maybe I just am feeling the need to have someone to take care of. Someones to take care of, to chase around, that are mine and steal my heart away forever, you know?

-sighs-
'Course, to get there, that means I have to get married first.
Good heavens.
Get married?
Like, to a man?
Forever?

Not that I'm not a committed person. I consider myself extremely loyal.
But right now? It's hard to imagine that I could find anyone that would or could love me exactly for who I am.
I suppose I know I'll find "the one" someday, but it feels sort of impossible right now, like I'm some sort of hopeless case.

For lack of a better excuse . . .

I must sincerely apologize for my lack of posting.

My Aunt stole my camera.
(Ruuude, I know.)

Please bear with me till I get it back!
I have been making up for it by being sort of poetic.

So in the mean time,
here is my poetry,
and here is a scary-looking gang I found in my house.

(I love you, I promise.)

My Crazy Family

Have I mentioned that I love my family? Because I most certainly do.

We started out (after cleaning up a little) with lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant. (I always, ALWAYS get a cheese enchilada. I'll look at the menu a little, choose some things that look good to me . . . and order a cheese enchilada.)

(Mom: Are you texting at the table? Really?)
 (Chelsea Marie: No . . . why would I do that . . . ?)

(Kennedy Paige and I tried on lots of hats . . . )
We went shopping to find Chelsea some shoes for winter, and also to find me some desperately needed jeans.

 ( . . . and lots of shoes, too.)

Then we set out to find Kennedy Paige some clothes that would fit her. (She's in the tween stage, where nothing fits.)

And I was lucky to find this awesome looking vintage suitcase, and a pair of shiny shoes to go with!
That sounds like I bought them.
I didn't.
Just took pictures. :)

(mustache, anyone? :)

All in all, we had a great time eating and shopping - trying on funny things, cute things, and just plain goofing off.

Like I said,
I love my family.

loves&hugs,
alyssa kaylee

P.S. Most to all picture editing you see on here is done by Chelsea Marie. She's pro. :)

eight . . . Eight?!

There are a lot.
Of kids.
At my house.

 (emily, my cousin)

 (mckenna, my other cousin)

(kennedy paige, my baby sister)

They're all entranced with Zach and Cody Martin.

(chelsea marie, my sister, and my cousin, archer)

Well, except for these two. They're sleeping.

(christian james, my brother)
And Christian, who probably isn't paying a whole lot of attention because he's inventing something. Probably.

And me too! I'm still a kid. ( . . . right?)

I promise my whole day hasn't revolved around the television. Just part of it. We did spend this morning playing and having adventures and making messes and everything!

And what do you have for dinner when there are too many kids to count at your house?

Why, hot dogs, of course.

Paige and Emily left us all some beautiful artwork . . .

Of . . .

Their undying love for Nick and Tavius.

All of it says "Nick and Tavius make us MELT!"

Oh, these cute teens. They're so tweeny and cute. I remember my first love . . .

But that is a story for another day.
