even though I don't have kids...

Sometimes I think back to my days of being "Miss Clark," and running around the elementary halls, and making copies, and the yelling, and the reading, and the runny noses, and the giggling and jokes and tears and tests and EVERYTHING and I miss it.
A lot.
I loved those kids so much. I still think about them. I wonder what they'll be like when they're my age, or when they have kids of their own. And I wonder what they think and feel and know, right now, when they're six or twelve or in between. I wonder if one is still having problems at home, or if one is actually REALLY trying now because he just has so much potential if he would just try. And I wonder how many teachers will throw their hands up in despair at him, or if they will see what I could see in him.
They poured their hearts out to me in that short school year. Trusted me with their deepest fears. And I helped them the best that I could.

I know I couldn't go back, not now. I could be a really great school teacher, but I don't agree with everything that goes on in public schools.
Hear me out for a minute.
I feel like there are some utterly fantastic teachers out there. I met some when I was teaching, and when I was in school.
But the school system itself, I can't let myself agree with.
I was able to get to know my students only because I broke the rules a little bit. I let them get creative, I let them speak their minds, and have disagreements with each other. I wanted them to learn how to discuss and think through things and decide things for themselves. And for that, I think they trusted me more, and learned more. I hope I was a good teacher for them, that some of them will remember something I taught them and it will do them good.

Gahhh, there's a lot I could say about this, but I'm getting off my soap box. Right now.
IN ESSENCE, I think teachers should be more like mentors in guiding children's learning as opposed to facts and worksheets and information.

I'm glad I don't have to decide what to do yet. I don't, after all, have kids. And maybe some of my opinions will change after I do have some of my own. In fact, they probably will.
Schooling, schooling, what to do.

What do you think about the schooling system?

Tis only a scratch.

So basically crazy things happen to me all the time.

I totally biffed it on the scooter on Monday. (Monday. Had to be it.) It was super awesome, and I wish someone could have recorded it. It got caught in a groove in the sidewalk, and I definitely did like a somersault-flip-type-thing that was beautiful and elegant, and landed on my butt with a loud "FRICK" to accompany it.

Classy, I know.

So of course there were a million people there to see me, so I'm basically famous at this school now. Everyone knows my name. It's true.Three guys walked passed and were like, "Hey, are you okay?" I'm fine, really, I'm fine. No autographs, please. And then, AND THEN. I was still in the process of making sure I had no broken bones and picking up my gracefully thrown body parts scattered across the sidewalk, and several agonizing seconds later, someone who had obviously seen from a long ways away, said, "Hey, are you okay? I'm an MT, are you sure?" You're a mountain? What? I'm fine. I'm just fine.

The moral? It's not easy to be famous.

I fought a bear, see.

First day of school! In this crazy, twenty-hour day, I:
met a weird girl on Trax
barely made it into German (with my past 'experience' I almost got kicked out . . . but I didn't so it's fine!)
(Ich heisse Alyssa. Wie heist du?)
played the piano in institute (I knew I would end up doing it anyway, so I just volunteered right off)
was ten minutes late to music theory (embarrassing)
made new friends
totally nailed my orchestra audition (Utah Philharmonia! Heck yeah!)
got my first blister from the harp
had a crazy weird work day
and got free panda express.

I only got a little bit lost, and I'm learning to use the shuttles so I won't  be late anymore. Also, this morning I woke up with a beautiful thing so named allergies that makes me look like I got punched in the face. That's cute, right? So today I'm going to my new classes like, "Hey, nice to meet you, I HAVE A FAT EYE!" So, I guess that's going to help me make my new goal to be remembered this year quite simpler. So here's to day two, guys.

I think it gives me character.

This is Bliss IV

fifteen-point-five credit hours
the folks who smile back
generous tippers
making organized lists... in Sunday school
the boy who just wanted to bear his testimony about his little brother
("he can just fall asleep anywhere!")
crying it out
finally understanding interval quality
sibling laughing festivals
street tacos
fresh fruit from the farmer's market
monsoon season
"Dumbledore's man, through and through"
showing off my (super hot) talented boyfriend

I mean seriously. And look at that killer smile of his. I'm just one lucky girl. :)
Happy Sunday, everyone!

School? What?

So, crazy thing, school starts in just over TWO WEEKS. I can't even believe it! I legitimately don't even know what to do with myself. I feel like I need to do so much to get ready . . . but I don't even know how to do that. It's a very confusing time for me.

I'm hoping, along with all the harping and theory and work (oh my!) I have to do this week, I can do some extra jobs at the house so I can buy some clothes. Otherwise, I might have to go around campus like this:

. . . and no one wants to see that.
I don't think I even wanted to see that. Maybe I should put up a cute one to even things out . . .

You know, I can't seem to find one. I seem to enjoy making faces in every photo there is.
Someday, someday.

p.s. Spencer had his yoyo competition in Florida yesterday! I took a break from work and watched him online. He was spectacular, of course. :)
p.p.s. Sometimes I just want to have a baby so I can dress her up and take her places in a stroller. Is that weird? Maybe I should just borrow one from the neighbors.

Did I mention that I love music?

Please excuse the weird chin-face on the right.
It's my performance face.
Today, I performed with the students of my lovely harp teacher, Miss Abby. Everyone played beautifully!
Also, I ran into my first harp teacher, Heidi, and two girls I started playing with from the very beginning. I hadn't seen them in years, and they were so accomplished and grown-up!
I'm so excited for Heidi, who is moving to Cali to play the harp at Disneyland (how cool is that?) and for these girls who are going to go SO far with their musical abilities.

I was happy with my performance, too. It went better than I expected (which any musician will tell you, that never, EVER happens) and it was a great experience.

I love music. I am so excited to be a part of the music program at the U.
I love music.
I love it.
Love.

the end.

And . . . scene.

taken by spencer

I have this thing.
You know those glasses that turn into sunglasses when you wear them in the sun?
I hate them.

On a completely different note, I'm back in school this week. I can't stop thinking about what college is going to be like, and it's distracting.

I feel like such a kid. I'm entering as a freshman. College. COLLEGE. All my other friends already have a year or two behind them, and I feel like fresh-meat. (Gettit? Freshman, fresh meat . . . ha)

"You're going to love college! It's so fun!"
Also hard.
Also big.

IT'S SO BIG. What do I even do? I don't know.

On anothernother note, I promise I'll post Easter pictures. Someday.

the end.

Guess what?

I got a letter from the University of Utah, yesterday.

dot, dot, dot, et cetera.
-smiles ridiculously-

Now I just have to get accepted to the school.
And search for scholarships. Hooray for scholarships!
The end.

Everything.

So I'm just sitting here, eating Corn Pops . . .
And realizing that I am really lame at updating my blog, lately.
Let me give you a run-down.

I'm no longer going to Snow College (for, contrary to the website, they do NOT have a harp teacher). I am, instead, planning on going to the U (or Weber, if finances don't work out the way I'd like them to). I am auditioning for Weber on Friday, and U of U on Saturday.

And I am so scared.

I did perform for all the youth in my home ward yesterday, and felt pretty great about that. The performance went well, and it was very good practice to perform for people.

Speaking of my home ward, I'm going back.
As great as the single's ward is, it's much too . . . awkward. Not that I don't appreciate awkwardness. I love awkwardness. It's just too much. Home I go!

Also, I've decided that I'm going to run away to the mountains next weekend. With my auditions over, I think I need to get away for awhile.

I suppose that's all for now. Except wait! Here's this:

This song is beautiful and brilliant. Regina Spektor, people.
The end.
